Use the transaction source
Use the actual receipt or another identifiable source. An entered price is not an appraisal or proof of legal ownership.
Link and record the purchase
- Open the firearm dossier and link the receipt as a document.
- Use a title that identifies the item and transaction.
- Record the date and amount you can substantiate in the appropriate ownership details.
- Preserve the currency and any separately recorded fees.
- Reopen the entry and confirm the receipt belongs to this item.
Distinguish price from later value
The record should distinguish the price paid from other costs and from any later recorded value.
Allocate a multi-item invoice
If the receipt covers multiple items, note the allocation and its basis. Do not quietly treat the full invoice total as one firearm’s price.
