Identify the figure’s basis

Identify whether the figure is a purchase price, appraisal, estimate, or another stated basis.

Keep amount, currency, and source together

  1. Choose the relevant firearm record.
  2. Record the figure and currency without combining different currencies.
  3. Name its basis and source in the supporting record or notes.
  4. Keep a dated copy of any appraisal or source document.
  5. Set an owner-chosen review date only if it helps you revisit the figure.

Explain what the number represents

A later reader should understand both the number and what the number represents.

Retain conflicting bases

If two sources disagree, retain their dates and bases. Do not replace an appraisal with an asking price and present the figures as equivalent.

Keep the connected record.
